Executive Director

We are recruiting a dynamic, results oriented individual to serve as liaison between our Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, and the broader community.  The Executive Director will be responsible for the following operational areas as we open our new Therapeutic Riding Centre located on Mount Scio Road in St. John’s.

Oversight of Daily Operations – Adhering to sound business and human resources principles while ensuring best practices, promoting professional development activities, and updating job descriptions, records, and work plans.  Staffing and volunteer recruitment are key functions in this role.  You will ensure compliance with any federal, provincial and municipal legislation that affects the operations and budgets of non-profit organizations and registered charities.

Financial Management – Monitoring accounts receivable; accounts payable; payroll; tax receipts; financial reports; bank reconciliations; monthly remittances; HST and day to day banking.  This includes budgeting and internal controls to ensure that the organization operates within budgetary guidelines.

Fundraising Programs - Including the development and implementation of all fundraising programs, liaising with donors and funding partners, and creating and executing a donor recognition program.

Other Duties - Including working with the Riding Program Director to ensure the optimal welfare of the riders and the horses and overseeing proper maintenance of the physical facility, grounds, and operational equipment.  You will also prepare board reports, communications, and other statistical data on all activities.


The position requires exceptional leadership skills and the ability to multi-task.  The successful candidate will have proven organizational, analytical, time management skills, and the ability to work both independently and in a collaborative work environment where effective working relationships with both staff and volunteers is essential.  You will bring the following to this position:

Knowledge of, and experience in, administrative processes
Experience in project management
Strong written and oral communications skills
Strategic marketing abilities
Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft excel, email and Simply Accounting
Experience working with a not for profit or registered charity

Experience using social media platforms (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube) would be a valuable asset.
